Jerry 'Red' Wellman Current Services Jerry Ray 'Red' Wellman of Tishomingo passed from this life on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 in Tishomingo at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 20 days. Red was born on January 12th, 1951 in Tishomingo to the late Earl 'Buddy' Wellman and Wanda (Brady) Wellman. Red attended Ravia schools and Tishomingo High School where he graduated. Red called Johnston County his home for most of his life. Red met the love of his life, JoAnn Mathews at the Iron Kettle in Tishomingo where she worked as a waitress. They were married on April 29, 1983, a union that would last 40 wonderful years. Red worked as a Cement Finisher and was employed at Dolese, and Sonny's Locker Plant. Red also worked at Lambert's Service Station. Some of the many hobbies that Red enjoyed were, going to the casino, playing dominoes, and talking to people. Red also enjoyed going to the coffee shop which he referred to as his 'office.' He would spend time with friends, socialize, and give others a hard time. Red leaves to forever cherish his memory: Wife: JoAnn Wellman of the home Son: Jeremy Wellman and Courtney of Ravia Daughter: Misty Jeronimo and Adolfo of Madill Brother: William 'Sonny' Wellman of Madill Sister: Jamie Roberts and Don of Madill Sister in Law: Karen Wellman of Madill Red is also survived by his grandchildren, Jayden Wellman, Karlee Pollard, Jordis Johnson, Layla Jeronimo, Haley Jeronimo, and Baylee Johnson, as well as numerous other family members and friends. Red will also be dearly missed by all of the coffee drinkers at the Quick Mart in Tishomingo. Red was preceded in death by both of his parents, brother: Dewayne Wellman and Sister: Linda Cox. Funeral services to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, December 07, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Fletcher Auditorium at Murray State College with Reverend David Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Michael Mathews, Thomas Mathews, Dylan Mathews, Brian Cox, Daniel Maxey, and Leland Quirey. Services have been entrusted to the care and direction of Hartwell Funeral Home.
