Billy 'Gene' Bishop

Billy Gene Bishop of Tishomingo was born on March 11, 1947 in Ada, OK to the late John Franklin Bishop & Wilma Lois Robertson. Gene passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at his home in Tishomingo at the age of 69 years, 1 month, & 29 days. Mr. Bishop attended school at Byng, OK and graduated from there in 1965. Shortly after graduation Gene went to small engine trade school before he was drafted in the United States Army in 1966 where he served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1968. During his military career Mr. Bishop obtained the Marksmanship Medal. After being discharged from the military, Gene went to work in the Oil Field as a Derek Hand, which he done for the most of his life. In 1990 Gene moved to Tishomingo from Ada, OK where he lived the remainder of his life. Shortly after he moved to Tishomingo, he began to take care of his Aunt Velma Bishop until her death in 1998. The family says that some of the many qualities & talents that Gene had were, he was a great seamstress, good mechanic, good guitar player, and so much more. Gene loved to sing, cook and do just about anything with his hands.
