Claudette Hurst

Claudette Hurst, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully at her home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, on August 8, 2026. She was 85 years old. Claudette was born Claudette Heath on January 19, 1941, in Milburn, Oklahoma—a place that would shape the roots of her enduring character and her lifelong devotion to family and community.From her earliest days, Claudette was defined by an unwavering strength and a steadfast determination. After attending Milburn High School and furthering her education at Murray State College, she embarked on a journey that blended heart, persistence, and vision. Together with her beloved husband Vernon, she built Hurst Carpet. The business flourished under her leadership and tireless commitment as she ran it for many years, transforming it into more than just a means of livelihood—it became a testament to her ingenuity, drive, and the way she inspired all those around her. In the words of those who knew her best, “She was the boss. She made things happen.”Yet Claudette's most precious accomplishments were her children. She placed family at the center of every choice she made, every sacrifice she bore, and every dream she pursued. Claudette could achieve anything she set her mind to, but her greatest source of joy and pride was watching her children flourish.Her giving spirit extended beyond the walls of her home into the lives of countless others. Claudette and Vernon founded SWAMP Kids at First Baptist Church in Tishomingo—Students With A Magnificent Potential. Through this ministry, Claudette helped change the futures of so many, nurturing young hearts and inspiring endless possibilities. Her love for this work was palpable, and the impact she made will carry on for generations.Claudette's life was rich with the simple joys she cherished—quilting, cooking, painting, working in her yard, and tending lovingly to her flowers. These hobbies reflected her compassionate and nurturing touch, and the beauty she cultivated was a mirror to the kindness she showed to others. Family gatherings brimmed with her warmth, and fond memories of playing cards together in Colorado linger sweetly among those she loved. Her loved ones will remember her as a woman of her word—steadfast and true.Claudette leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her daughter Tina Zimmerman; her husband Phil Zimmerman of Anderson, South Carolina; her son Wayne Hurst and his wife Ashley of Inola, Oklahoma; her son Brian Hurst and his wife Jami of Milburn, Oklahoma. Cherished also by eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, her love endures in all who were blessed to know her.
