Obituary

Everett Gene Benson, a cherished member of the Tishomingo community, passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on November 26, 1966, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Everett lived a life filled with simple pleasures and profound love. He dedicated himself to his work in construction, specializing in cement work, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and friends.

Everett was not only a hardworking man but also a free spirit who enjoyed the natural beauty around him. He took immense joy in riding three-wheelers and motorcycles, and he held a special fondness for horses. His heart was often found on the water where he loved to fish, and he relished leisurely walks throughout the streets of Tishomingo. Daily, he appreciated the little things in life, such as the exchange rates displayed on the bank sign that caught his eye.

A man of few words but infinite kindness, Everett was beloved by many in Johnston County. His sudden absence was deeply felt by those who knew him, as people came together to search for him during the days he was missing. The dedication and affection shown by the community reflect the impact he had on everyone around him. Known for his gentle soul, Everett never did harm to anyone, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth.

He took great pride in his family, which was undoubtedly his proudest achievement. He is survived by his sons, Joe Ezell of Valley View, Texas, Matthew Ezell of Valley View, Texas, and Eric Benson of Shreveport, Louisiana. Everett's spirit will also be carried forward by his brother Rickey Fairchield of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, his sister Sherry Scarberry of Madill, Oklahoma, and his brother Tommy Benson of Kingston, Oklahoma. He was a devoted grandfather to Connor Benson, Noah Smith, and Joe Ezell, who will cherish the memories of their time together, and he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends in Johnston County who cared for him wholeheartedly.

Everett had simple pleasures; he loved indulging in his favorite meals at McDonald's, a reflection of his down-to-earth nature. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the Tishomingo community that embraced him so dearly.

In the end, though he may have departed from this world, the vibrant spirit of Everett Gene Benson will forever echo in the lives he touched, reminding us all of the beauty found in genuine connections and the love of family.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hartwell Funeral Home for their assistance during this difficult time.
