Howard Melton Current Services Howard Lee Melton of Mannsville, Oklahoma left his earthly home on June 2, 2022 at the Oklahoma Veteran's Center in Sulphur. He was born May 3, 1942 in Idabel, Oklahoma to the late Jessie Lee Melton and Mary Lena Johnson. Howard and his wife, Ruth made their home in Roanoke, Virginia. In 2018, after her passing, he moved to Mannsville, Oklahoma to be near his brother. Howard worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years and was eventually promoted up to Postmaster. He also served in the United States Marine Corps. Howard served two terms in Vietnam before leaving the military. He enjoyed fishing with his brother, singing, and playing his harmonica. He probably enjoyed singing most of all. Others may not have enjoyed his singing as well as he did. Even so, he never let that stop him from doing what he loved. He was known to make up his own songs as well as singing well known songs. Howard is preceded in death by both parents; wife, Ruth Melton; step-son, Marshall; brother, Oscar Howard Melton; sisters, Ruby Marlene Rankin and Janice Ruth Penrod. Those he leaves to forever cherish his memory are, brothers, Fred Eugene Melton of Mannsville, Oklahoma, Wilford Melton and wife, Pat of Bray, Oklahoma; sisters, Wanda Newman of Duncan, Sarah Alice Denham of Marlow, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Lavana Denham of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral Services to honor Howard's life will be held 2 pm Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Hartwell Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Lone Cedar Cemetery in Mannsville, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction and care of Hartwell Funeral Home.
