Lajuan Wheeler, affectionately known as Lou, Sister, or Mama Lou, passed away on August 9, 2024, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on May 16, 1936, in Levelland, Texas, she lived a vibrant life marked by her passion for dance and her dedication to her career in nursing and physical therapy in Garland, Texas.
Lajuan's love for dance was evident as she spent three nights a week dancing at Pacesetters in Madill, surrounded by a close-knit group of friends who shared her enthusiasm. Her spirited nature extended to her hobbies, which included beading jewelry and fishing. She loved gardening growing tomatoes and okra. One of her fishing great fishing trips was with the one and only Blake Shelton at her favorite fishing spot.
Lajuan shared nearly 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Wilmer Dean Wheeler, until his passing. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, a legacy carried on by their family.
She leaves behind a loving family: sons Penty Wayne Wheeler of Tishomingo and Johnnie Dean Wheeler of Gordonville, Texas; sister Janice Wheeler Kelly and her husband Raymond of Waxahachie, Texas; brother Mac Pope of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Daniel and Leslie Wheeler, Brandon and Melanie Wheeler, Larry and Ashley Maglothin, Alyssa and Beren Bragg, and Alex Wheeler; and great-grandchildren Levi, Evelyn, Brynlee, Kenneth, Carter, and Charlotte. Lajuan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leila Pope and four brothers and one sister.
Lajuan's life was a testament to her joyous spirit and caring soul, leaving an indelible mark on her community and all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate her remarkable life. Lajuan's family invites her friends and loved ones to join in remembering a woman who danced through life with grace and joy.
