Melton Gene Hester

Melton Hester Current Services Melton Gene Hester, born January 25, 1947, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his residence in Ravia, where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Henry and Juanita Hester.

Melton attended Ravia Elementary School and graduated from Ravia High School in 1965. Shortly after, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as part of the artillery division. Following his military service, Melton built a 23-year career at Michelin tire plant in Ardmore, Ok, retiring from tire production.

Melton was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed working on engines, picking up pecans, mowing lawns for neighbors, and playing dominoes. A devoted member of Ravia Baptist Church, he served as the song leader for many years and later sang in the choir. Music and faith were central to his life. Melton also loved softball and was an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys and OU football.

Melton married Willene Beaver on August 6, 1965, and together they had one son, Michael Hester. Later, he married Caroline Ann Rogers in 1982, sharing 19 years together.

He is survived by his son Michael Hester of Ravia, Oklahoma; brother Billy Don Hester and wife Glenn Nell of Edmond, stepdaughter Amber Broome of Norman, Oklahoma; stepsons Shawn Laney and Eddie Ray Laney of Mineral Wells, Texas; granddaughters Cierra Laney of Dickson and Savannah Gipson of McKinney, Texas; grandson Kree Laney of Mineral Wells.

Melton was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Juanita Hester; sister Carolyn Sue Meador; and brother Joe Dean Hester.

Melton will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others, and love for music and community. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Services will be scheduled for Melton at a later date. His life, marked by devotion to his family, faith, and numerous passions, will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
