IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mona Sue
Gothard
August 8, 1936 – March 15, 2026
Mona Sue Gothard, a cherished soul whose warmth and unwavering devotion to family defined her life, passed away on March 15, 2026, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Born on August 8, 1936, Mona Sue lived a life rich in love, simple pleasures, and steadfast commitment to those she held dear.
A sweet lady, loving and caring for others, Mona Sue found joy in the everyday acts that nurtured her family’s hearts and homes. She worked most of her life as a cook, a role in which her tender touch and nurturing spirit were always evident. Not content to stay in the kitchen alone, she also took the wheel as a truck driver, embracing her work with grit and determination. Yet it was her homemade jelly—each jar a testament to her patience and craft—that became a delicious emblem of her love, a flavor of home wherever it was shared.
Mona Sue’s hands and heart found happiness in sewing, fishing, gardening, and the art of canning food. These hobbies were more than pastimes; they were expressions of her desire to care for and provide comfort to those around her. A proud member of the American Auxiliary, she combined her passions with a commitment to community, standing by others through quiet strength.
Her proudest accomplishments were her grandchildren, the bright lights who carried forward her legacy of love and warmth. She was always there for her family, a steadfast presence ready with encouragement and kindness. Her life was painted with the hues of loyalty and generosity, traits that blossomed from the roots of her Baptist faith, which she held close to her heart until her final moments.
Mona Sue was preceded in death by her father, Marion Linn; her mother, Harriett Linn; her beloved husband; her daughter, Corliss McEachen; and her sister, Ireta Self. Though these dear souls have journeyed before her, their memories live on through the lives she touched.
She leaves behind a loving circle: her son Billy Carter of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; her granddaughters Latisha Burris of Padron, Arizona and Kayla Carter of Montana; step-grandchildren Carter, Brisa Burris, Robert Packer, and Dalton Packer; along with numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry forward her memory with affection.
Mona Sue Gothard’s life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and gentle care. She touched many with her sweet spirit and simple acts of kindness, leaving an indelible mark on every heart she encountered. In the quiet remembrance of her passing, those who loved her will find comfort in the enduring legacy of her warmth and devotion.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hartwell Funeral Home for their assistance during this difficult time.
