Viola Helm Current Services

Viola Aline Helm of Ardmore, Oklahoma stepped into heaven to meet Jesus on November 17, 2020 at her home in Ardmore at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 23 days.  Viola was born June 25, 1930 in Melbern, Arkansas to the late Arvil Weston and Virdie (Ward) Weston.  She left Arkansas and moved to Independence, Oregon when she was 15 years old.

Viola later met that special someone while visiting friends in Bakersfield, Ca.  She married James Helm on November 11, 1949 in Hawethorne, Nevada, a union that would last 51 years.  From this union, three children were born.  They made their home in Nevada before moving to Oregon and then on to Ridgecrest, Ca.  Viola worked as a secretary at the China Lake Naval Air Weapons base in Ridgecrest until her retirement.

Viola's husband passed away in 2001 and she moved to Oklahoma in 2004 to be near her youngest son.  She made her home at the Baptist Village in Madill, Ok.  She resided there until she was no longer able to care for herself.  She truly loved all of her friends there and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with them.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, working word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family.  Numerous family members and friends have been blessed with her quilts or something she has sewn.  Along with quilting and sewing, she was also known for her often requested sour dough biscuits.  As Viola got older, she was unable to cook, quilt, or sew so she spent time playing on her tablet that her granddaughter gave her.  She spent many hours playing games on it and going on pinterest to look at quilts and crochet patterns.

Viola was preceded in death by both parents, her husband; two brothers; a daughter, Patsy Gushiken, a son, Floyd Helm; and granddaughter, Savannah Caldwell.

She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory, son Lee Helm and wife, Staci of Ardmore, Ok;  daughter in law, Lori Helm Gross of Ridgecrest, Ca.; sister, Luretta Butler of Oregon; grandchildren, Staci Ben Koussa and husband Amen of San Diego, Michael Harrison and wife Angie of San Diego, James Frazier of Mingo Junction, Oh. Theresa Whygle and husband Danny of Bridge Creek, Ok, Calvin Helm and wife Dawn of Ardmore, Ok.,Melissa Stull and husband Dan of Redding, Ca., Justin Hartwell and wife Andrea of Stillwater, Ok., Patrick Helm of Ardmore, Ok.,  Kelsi Eddings of Princeton, Tx., Drew Daniels and wife Jorgelina, Billy Helm and wife Rhonda, Leldon Helm, and Lyman Helm.
