LaVere "Butch" Eugene Shafer left his earthly home on November 23, 2021 at the Blue River Health Care in Tishomingo, Ok at the age of 81 years. Butch was born on March 7, 1940 to the late Lester Shafer and Gwen (Volkers) Shafer in Rockford, Illinois.
He married Norma Ann Fergueson on May 2, 1964 in Rockford, Illinois, a union that lasted 56 years. From this union, two children were born, Freddie and Karen. The couple made Tishomingo their home in 2009 after living in the Kingston and Enos area. Butch served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. After leaving the military, Butch became a truck driver and later owned his own trucking company, Shafer Trucking. He continued the family business until 2006 when he and his wife were no longer able to do so.
Butch enjoyed spending time with his wife and traveling with her on their motorcycle (trike). They traveled many places on the trike, including a trip to South Dakota to visit Mount Rushmore. He was a member of a Christian motorcycle group and also a member of the Honda Goldwing Riders. Butch was also an avid hunter and fisherman. When he wasn't riding, he enjoyed wetting a line.
Butch was preceded in death by both parents and his wife.
He leaves behind to forever cherish his memory, son, Eugene "Freddie" Shafer of Marietta; daughter, Karen Woolly and husband, Nelson of Tishomingo; sister, Janet and husband, Art of Nevada, Iowa; brother, Gael Shafer of Rockford, Illinois; grandchildren, Shane, Peyton, Justin, Amanda, and Jennifer.
A memorial service to honor LaVere Eugene Shafer will be Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the Chapel at Hartwell Funeral Home from 2pm - 4pm located at 320 W. Main St. in Tishomingo.
